Specific helps for Writing an Article Review

Article Review

The purpose of a review paper is to succinctly summarize an article AND evaluate the article.

  1. Locate the Article - Use PsycINFO or PsycARTICLES Databases to find a Scholarly article on your topic.   See the Finding Journal Articles tab for specific instructions for searching including a SHORT video.
  2. Read the ArticleThe easiest way to work with the article is to print the article out. You may print for free at the Research Computers near the help desk in the Morgan Library.
    1. Preview the Article - Read the title, abstract, introduction, headings and conclusion or discussion.
    2. Read the article closely - Now that you know the main idea of the article, you can read the article closely, highlighting and making notes on the paper copy of the article.
  3. Put the article in your own words and identify the parts you wish to focus on in your review.
  4. Outline first, then write your paper. Make sure you are EVALUATING the article and not just summarizing.
  5. Create a strong introduction and conclusion.  Add an interesting, appropriate title.
  6. Throughout your paper use APA style for writing, in text citations and reference list.
