Primary Resources:

  • Original documents
  • First-hand observation or experience
  • Diaries, manuscripts, email

Examples:  Diaries and letters, journal article reporting results of of an experiment, newspaper article on the day of the event

Secondary Resources:

  • Repackaging or interpretation of primary information
  • Resource that lead you back to primary information

Examples:  Book on the Civil War, journal article reviewing scientific research, encyclopedias
