This Research guide introduces library resources that are helpful for research.

Using Google Slides to Create your Poster

  • Open new Slide 
  • File --> Page Set up
  • Choose Custom
  • set size in Inches, i.e. 36" x 24"
  • Save as .PDF.
    • File --> Download as PDF
  • Save your PDF to your Google Drive

Using Power Point to Create Poster

  • Open a blank PowerPoint page
  • On the Design Tab - choose Slide Size (Custom)
  • Change Width to 36 in and Height to 24 in.
  • Use "Insert" to make Text Boxes and insert Pictures
  • Save as .PDF
    • File-->Export -->Create PDF
  • Save to Google Drive

Using Canva to Create Posters

Citations

  • If you are quoting or paraphrasing, add In-Text Citations in MLA Style. 
  • A Works Cited page can be attached to the back or printed separately.

Poster Tips

  • Posters are visual presentations - the text and graphics should support each other             
  • Sketch your design arranging your sections in 2 to 4 columns; following a logical sequence.
  • Get to the point and do not fill the poster with only text.  Use photos, figures, and tables to help tell your story.
  • Width - 36 inches and Height = 24 inches
  • Blocks of text:  for a cleaner look, do a Full Justify
  • Use only 2-3 colors

  • Verdana
  • Tahoma
  • Arial
  • Lucida Sans
  • Georgia

Suggested Type Sizes (approximate)

  • Title                   72 - 80 pt
  • Authors             48 - 60 pt
  • Headings          36 - 60 pt   
  • approximately 50% larger than main text 
  • Main Text          24 - 36 pt
  • Captions           24 - 32 pt
  • Works Cited      24 pt

FYI - 100 point font is approximately 1" high

Poster Printer

Poster printerPrint posters!  

  1. Create your poster in the FINAL size you would like it printed, i.e. 24 x 36 inches*
  2. Save as PDF
  3. Save to your Google Drive
  4. Log into the computer next to the KIP (large format printer) on the main floor of the library and follow the directions available at the computer.

*Max width is 36" x any desired length.

Poster Printer Costs: 

  • Black and white = $1.50 per square foot
  • Color = $2.00 per square foot

Tips for Creating a Poster

PLEASE NOTE: This printer is reserved for large, single posters. If you have multiple advertising posters (11x17 or smaller), you may want to use a printer/copier with regular paper or contact Bartel Printing in Warsaw.
